Benito Cerna Leon
Biography

Benito Cerna Leon is a self-taught artist from Trujillo, Peru, whose work explores motion, emotion, and the beauty of human and animal connection. His artistic journey is defined by a lifelong commitment to learning through observation, experimentation, and a deep curiosity about form, light, and movement. Working primarily in oil on canvas, Benito continues to refine a style that balances realism and expression. His brushwork reveals an instinctive sensitivity to gesture and rhythm, often centering on equestrian subjects horses in motion, moments of stillness before action, and the quiet dialogue between rider and animal. Benito’s current body of work reflects a fascination with the fleeting nature of time and energy.
He seeks to capture what he calls “momentums” the unrepeatable pulse within each instant. This focus has led him to explore color as emotion and composition as choreography, creating paintings that feel alive with movement and memory. Guided by humility and a dedication to growth, Benito views each painting as both a study and a conversation an ongoing process of discovery that mirrors his own evolution as an artist and observer of life.
